Martin C. Spieker

Martin Spieker was raised in North Surrey as one of five children of immigrant parents; his father was a steamfitter and mother at homemaker. In his teen years he developed a keen interest in cycling, skiing and motor-cross racing. He graduated at Simon Fraser University with a degree in Economics in 1990.

After commuting on his motorcycle for several years through slush and rain, he welcomed the offer to pursue his degree in law at the University of Western Australia in Perth. After graduating in 1994 he began to work with McNeney and McNeney as a Legal Assistant. He obtained his Canadian Law degree by attending the University of New Brunswick and University of Victoria Law Schools in 1996, while continuing to work for McNeney & McNeney. He completed his articles and was called to the bar in British Columbia in 1999 at which time he became an associate of the firm. He presently lives on the North Shore with a family of two children. His personal interests include Scouting as a leader, cycling, and motorcycle touring on an RT 1200 BMW.

In the earlier years of his practice, he worked with Jim McNeney as co-counsel on many complex files including a serious playground injury, occupier’s liability cases, spinal cord and brain injury, wrongful death, assault, slip and fall, and post-traumatic stress cases as well as files involving complex liability investigations. Over the years he has continued to represent injured persons and their families in a range of cases including brain injuries and other catastrophic injuries as well as complex liability litigation from motor vehicle collision reconstruction cases to cases involving defective roadway design or maintenance as a cause of motor vehicle collision and injury. He has also represented many clients in disability insurance litigation, motor vehicle insurance litigation and Motor Vehicle Act allegation disputes.

He is a member of the Trial Lawyer’s Association of British Columbia, Canadian Bar Association and the American Association for Justice. Being active in these organizations enables counsel to lead the way in developing strategy and experts based on current insurance and court trends. He believes very strongly that through a combination of a aggressive pursuit of rehabilitation and disability benefits and the use of medical and rehabilitation experts and engineers the fight to put injured persons, as best as can be done, in the place they were at before being injured, can be achieved. His practice is guided by this goal and the zealous pursuit of these rights through both trials and mediated settlements. He strongly believes that a vigilant advocacy is crucial for every persons fight against the commonly known interests of insurance corporations.
